When it comes to electric motorcycles, their popularity is indeed on the rise in Asia—like in China, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Even in India and Kenya, many people are using them. But the story is different in Europe and the United States, where electric motorcycles are still relatively rare.

How is that possible? Electric motorcycles are environmentally friendly, quiet, and supposedly economical. But it turns out, there are several reasons why electric motorcycles aren't so popular there.

### 1. They're Still Expensive

Electric motorcycles are generally more expensive than gasoline motorcycles with similar specifications. In America, for example, premium electric motorcycle models like the Energica or Zero can reach over US$20,000.

So it's no surprise that people there prefer gasoline motorcycles, which are more affordable and proven to be durable. In Europe, despite subsidies for electric vehicles, the price of electric motorcycles is still considered too high.

Now, there are starting to be cheaper versions of electric motorcycles, but unfortunately, their performance and range are still far inferior to regular gasoline motorcycles.

### 2. Range & Charging Stations Are Still Limited

One of the problems with electric motorcycles is that their range isn't as long as that of gasoline-powered motorcycles. Some models can reach up to 200 km, but that's only under certain conditions. Those who frequently travel long distances, especially touring, need to be prepared to charge frequently.

Another problem is that charging stations (especially fast charging stations) are still scarce, especially on long-distance routes. If you're just using them to commute to the office or around town, they're fine, but for those who like long trips, electric motorcycles aren't ideal.

### 3. Motorcycles Are for Touring There, Not Daily Use

Most people in America use motorcycles for touring or long-distance travel, not for daily use. So they prefer gasoline-powered motorcycles, which are less complicated and have a proven track record.

In Europe, motorcycles are more often used for daily transportation, but there's still a strong culture of using small, gasoline-powered motorcycles. So, not many people are interested in switching to electric motorcycles.

### 4. Electric Cars Are More Popular

Another fact is that in Europe and America, electric cars are far more popular than electric motorcycles. Government support is also greater for electric cars, from incentives to infrastructure development.

Plus, people there are more accustomed to driving cars than motorcycles. So it's no surprise that electric motorcycles aren't yet the primary choice.

Essentially, electric motorcycles still have many challenges to overcome in Europe and America before they become as popular as they are in Asia. But who knows, in a few years, everything could change.
